Each year since 1970, April 22nd represents Earth Day. A movement very personal to Sonia, our founder, and a day when we join millions of people around the globe to pledge support for our planet. This year’s theme is Invest In Our Planet and, while the magnitude of the climate challenge seems overwhelming, remember that even the smallest, simplest gestures collectively make a big and better difference to the future health of our environment.
“We are committed to our responsibility towards our customers and environment. We aren’t perfect, but we will always bring you your healthiest ever manicure while avoiding negatively impacting our planet.”

Eight easy green acts
Earth Day organisers suggest so many ways to invest in and make a positive impact on our planet. Here are our favourites.1. Advocate climate action among friends
Solving the climate crisis may seem like something only big corporations and governments can do. Yet as individuals, making our voices heard will have a huge impact on the behaviour and actions of the brands we and our friends buy from, and the policy makers leading us.
2. Help protect local wildlife
Our founder Sonia is hugely passionate about animal welfare, believing every living being on our planet has the same right to existence as we do. From planting and protecting habitats to petitioning local and national governments to stop wildlife destruction, there’s lots we can do.
3. Reduce your plastic consumption
Ditching plastic drinking straws, bottles and cling film; choosing plastic-free personal care products; finding your local refill store or shopping in local bakers, grocers or markets… the smallest lifestyle tweaks deliver great strides in lowering how much plastic harms our planet.
4. Choose vegan, cruelty-free beauty
Vegan formulas not only ensure no animals are harmed for their creation (whether through testing or use of animal derivatives) but they are also much less likely to use harsh, environmentally damaging chemicals. What’s more, actively choosing vegan personal care products, including all Nailberry colour and care, encourages a more ethically minded outlook, inspiring us to make switches elsewhere in our lives.
5. Reject fast fashion
Earth Day organisers advise a whopping 100 billion items of clothing are made per year for a population of 7 billion people; that the textiles industry is responsible for 10% of all carbon emissions, 60% of all clothing is made from microplastic-containing polyester, less than 1% of clothing is recycled and 87% is disposed of in landfills or incinerated. These are scary and unnecessary stats.
Avoid clothing made from virgin synthetic materials, support brands cutting carbon emissions or sustainably disposing of waste materials, buy better quality, more sustainable and longer lasting apparel and even explore how you can effectively recycle used clothing.
6. Join a community clean up or planting project
Beaches, parks, pavements.... we can all help make our planet safer and more beautiful by picking up one piece of litter at a time. Provide food and habitats for local birds and insects by planting native plants in your garden, or spread your support wider with global reforestation projects in communities most at-risk from climate change and environmental degradation.
7. Make at least one meal plant-based
Animal agriculture places a huge burden on our planet - it depletes resources and is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transport combined. Increasing the number of plant-based meals you eat not only produces significantly less greenhouse gases, but also has a 93-99% less impact on land use and water (according to Earth Day organisers).
8. Educate yourself on green issues
Visit your local library for some essential new reads:

Alternatively, Sir David Attenborough’s eight-part Netflix series ‘Our Planet’ - the follow-up to his Blue Planet series - makes it crystal clear why our planet needs us to tackle the climate crisis.
